Sometimes, the biggest adventures aren’t on the other side of the world—they’re just a few hours from home. Canadian best friends @jonny.arnott and @mackenztravels set out to see more of their own backyard—trading airport lines for backroads and big-name landmarks for quiet, unforgettable corners of Quebec. Over one month on the road to Gaspésie, they found that adventure doesn’t have to mean far-flung. Sometimes, the wildest beauty is right at home.
Packing For The Road
From city strolls to mountain hikes to camper life, Jonny and Mackenzie packed gear that adapts as quickly as the weather. A few versatile layers, reliable footwear, and rugged bags that keep everything organized made life on the road simple, so they could focus on what mattered most: the next stop on the map.

Discover 5 of Jonny & Mackenzie’s Favorite Stops in Quebec
Forillon National Park
Forillon feels like Canada showing off. It’s where the mountains crash into the ocean and you realize just how small (and lucky) you are to be in Canada. It's wild, breathtaking, and worth every uphill step.

Must-do: Hike up to Cap-Bon-Ami at sunset. You’ll sweat, you’ll swear, and then you’ll instantly forgive the trail because the view is unreal.
Isle-aux-Coudre

This little island feels like Quebec’s secret getaway. It’s part small-town charm and part I can’t believe places like this exist. Spend your time tasting cider, popping into quirky shops, and ending up at La Fabrique de l’Isle for amazing coffee and food. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to stay a little longer than planned.
Must-do: Rent bikes and do the full island loop with beautiful views, cider stops, and plenty of delicious food along the way.

Rimouski

Rimouski sits on the edge of the St. Lawrence River, but it feels like the coast because the river is so wide it looks like the sea. It’s got student-town buzz, cool shops, great food, and sunsets that stop you in your tracks. Spend the day exploring Parc National du Bic, where cliffs, seals, and salt air steal the show.
Must-do: Fish and chips on the boardwalk while the sky turns gold.
La Mauricie National Park

La Mauricie feels like stepping straight into a Twilight movie (in the best way). Endless forests, mirror-still lakes, and the sound of loons echoing across the water. It’s calm, cinematic, and full of that moody magic Quebec does so well.

Must-do: Pick one of the many breathtaking hikes, then reward yourself with a pastry from one of the local boulangeries.
Bonus: Carleton-sur-Mer

Carleton-sur-Mer feels like the definition of slow waterfront living. It’s fun and real, the kind of town you might drive straight through, but you shouldn’t. Once you stop, you’ll be looking up house prices and wondering if you should move here. Long walks along the water, pastel sunsets, and that easy rhythm make it quietly unforgettable.
Must-do: Grab takeout, head to the river front park, and watch the sun drop into the water
